A Sea of Purple at Bridestowe Lavender Farm

Here at Shack in the Dunes, we’re all about the quiet joys… salty air on your skin, slow days and the kind of mornings that drift into afternoons without you noticing. But sometimes, a little adventure beyond the dunes makes the perfect chapter in your escape. One of our favourites? The breathtaking Bridestowe Lavender Farm.

Bridestowe Lavender Farm, Tasmania

Just a scenic 40-minute drive from our little coastal hideaway, the world shifts into shades of purple. Rolling rows of French lavender stretch out beneath the Tasmanian sky, their fragrance carried on the breeze. Established in 1922, Bridestowe is more than a farm… It’s a beautiful and tranquil piece of Tasmania where time feels unhurried.

Tasmanian Lavender Farm Festival Of Flowers

The best time to visit is during the Festival of Flowers in December and January, when the lavender is in full bloom and the landscape looks like it’s been brushed with violet watercolours. Wander through the fields, camera in hand, or simply stand still and breathe in the calming natural fragrance. If you want to visit outside the Festival of Flowers, you can follow Bridestowe Lavender Farm’s flower status on their website.

Bridestowe Lavender Farm Treats

There’s more to discover, too, from guided tours sharing the farm’s history and distillation secrets, to the Woodcroft Café, where local flavours are infused with a gentle touch of lavender, or honey from hardworking lavender farm bees. Think lavender ice cream, honey, or tea, enjoyed with views as sweet as the treats.

Bridestowe Estate Gift Shop

Before you leave, the gift shop is a must. Take home a little piece of Bridestowe — perhaps their signature lavender oil, a jar of lavender honey, or the famous Bobbie the Bear, a cuddly Tasmanian icon filled with dried lavender.

A day at Bridestowe is exactly what we love most about this island — nature at its most beautiful, experiences that linger long after you’ve returned, and a reminder that slowing down is the best way to take it all in.
